Taking You on a Behind the Scenes Look to Product Photography

Taking You on a Behind the Scenes Look to Product Photography

Every week we get to work on product shots ranging from all our different Clients. Stacey, one of our excellent photographers, takes you in a behind the scenes look to her weekly routine and creative process.

Stacey has always had an eye for design. She has been working in the wine/hospitality Industry for the last 20 years which has enabled her to stay creative with designing events, tablescape's, merchandising, etc. Beauty shots and lifestyle shots allow her to translate her passion for design to another field - photography! Being a part-time photographer at Left Coast since day one she is now going full-time and enjoying every minute of it.

"It all starts with the label", Stacey tells. Whether it is white, red, rose...the label determines the feel of the shot.  Unless given direction from a Client, Stacey moves through her creative process in testing different table settings, backdrops, photo styling with props, and lighting all to capture the true beauty of each bottle.

"Lighting is the most important!"

With the right lighting and angles of light the bottle can give off a different mood. It can create shadows or white out specific spots, all to create a sense of emotion or feeling to convey.

The post production is where the fun comes in. It is where perfection takes place between editing the colors and pulling out shadows where they do not belong. A lot of time and detail go into this step to ensure the final product is what the Client needs.

One of the greatest challenges photographers face is making sure they are on the same page as the Client.  Photography is subjective and sometimes a photographer will try something and really like it but is not sure if the Client will like it as well. But that challenge is rewarded when the Client is happy, and that is one the best things about photography. Being able to be creative, having fun setting up photoshoots and making sets and shots look pretty are all the best parts in doing product photography. As Stacey and many other photographers would say, seeing your photograph on a Clients website, advertisement, in store displays, or anywhere is the best part because you know you made that Client happy and that is most rewarding.

A Little Family Called Benziger

A Little Family Called Benziger

The beautiful Benziger Family Winery was founded over 30 years ago when members of the family introduced a new light into the world of wine, making green farming mainstream. They value three things: family, wonderful wine, and a healthy vineyard. You cannot visit the winery without indulging in all those values. From their warming staff, to memorable wines and beautiful landscape, Benziger tops the charts when it comes to Sonoma Valley destinations.

Working with people who cherish the same things we do is a blessing, that is why we love having Benziger as one of our Clients. They make the job feel less like work and more like a fun and rewarding hobby. We have had the honor of working closely with their marketing and design departments on product and on location photography, wine club newsletters, and even their annual holiday catalog.

Designing newsletters has always been a secret favorite of ours because we get to step away from some of our normal projects and bring a little more creativeness to the Design. Whether that be experimenting with different colors, layouts, shapes and fonts; do not get me wrong we do that with other projects as well, but newsletters always bring a little extra fun and challenge to us. This spring we even got to dive into designing newsletters for the sister winery, Imagery. The Design for Imagery took a more modern approach which was refreshing. See the finished product below!

Not only did we design the newsletters for Imagery and Benziger this spring, we also got the chance to do the Photography for the annual Annual Holiday Catalog as well, which expanded on the newsletter design elements and provided something special for members to enjoy when they open their delicious box of wines

Of course you cannot have Design without Photography! We are lucky to have Benziger utilize us for Photography as well. We love visiting the winery itself and it is way more fun doing a photoshoot on location than in the studio. The last two years we shot on location for their holiday catalogs and even for a Food & Wine Magazine. Every chance we get we love going out to the winery because the people are great, the wines are spectacular and the landscape is breathtaking.

A Look Into Lambert Bridge Photoshoots

A Look Into Lambert Bridge Photoshoots

We worked on two photoshoots this year with Lambert Bridge. Both were full of creativity, inspiration and were driven through collaboration from their team and ours. Following up one of our latest blogs, Photography is Our Backbone, we wanted to share these two photoshoots with you because not only did we love every moment on set working with the creative team at Lambert Bridge, but we also were more than happy with the finished Photography

In January we shot with Lambert Bridge for their Gilfillan Cabernet. This is a special wine as only 75 cases were produced and it retails for $150 per bottle. They expected to sell only around 10 cases but ended up selling out within a month and a half. The 4 hour photoshoot was accompanied by Erika Lindstrom, Marketing Director at Lambert Bridge, and Shelby Kolbin, Wine Club Manager. They both had so much great input and inspiration for the look and feel of how the photographs should be. The images were dark, sexy, and moody. There is nothing more rewarding than when you can make your Client happy and feel like they've gotten everything and more of what they wanted. The images below are some of our favorite Beauty Shots from that day and they turned out so well they are now implemented throughout Lambert Bridge's website. Talk about utilizing Photography to its full extent.

The second photoshoot we worked on with Lambert Bridge was only a few weeks ago. The fun thing about this shoot was that it took on a completely different feel and look than the Gilfillan shoot. This time we were shooting for their spring release wines including the Rose, Sauvignon Blanc and Malbec (one of their upcoming club release wines), as well as their club recipe. The Beauty Shots revealed a summery feel with brighter highlights and colors centering in on the product. After finishing this shoot we were craving the sun and a cool glass of their delicious wine.
